August 2006 Results

Stableford, Sunday 20th August 2006

The course had benefited from rain over the previous week, but luckily the rain held off for the competition. Some excellent scores were achieved and the results were as follows:

Mini League, May to August 2006

This summer twenty five lady members participated in the inaugural mid week mini league. Six teams participated and 2 players from each team played the other teams twice, once on the red course and once on the green. Stableford scoring determined who took the 3 points for a win. Most of the matches were very tightly contested, with three matches drawn, all of which involved Team 2. At the end of ten weeks Team 6, comprising Kay Shacklady, Ann Breedon, Gillian Konrad and expertly captained by Shirley Kehoe, were the winners with 25 points.

To round off the competition a little prize giving was followed by a celebratory feast of jacket potatoes and salad. Preceding this was a putting competition won by Chris George, with 3 'holes in one' and a chipping competition with five attempts to chip into a bunker from the driving range. Woefully, only 2 ladies were successful, Sue Smith with one whilst Jean Grimshaw managed two. Jean's tip was "aim for the flag and the bunker is unmissable".

The mini league was great fun and played in a very friendly spirit, which we hope to repeat next year. Thanks to Gillian Konrad for organising this competition.

August Medal and Gerry Sturgess Trophy, Sunday 13th and Tuesday 15th August 2006

Thirty two ladies took part in this month's medal run in conjunction with the Gerry Sturgess Trophy. The Tuesday ladies definitely had an advantage over the ladies who played in torrential rain and wind on Sunday. Despite this Fiona Hogg came in with a fantastic score of nett 60. The results were as follows:

Captain vs Vice Captain, Tuesday 8th August 2006

There was a great turnout for this fun competition. Forty two players were split into two teams, Anne’s team sporting yellow and Sue’s in pink. Competitors were kept refreshed with yellow bananas, pink apples and half way round a nice cool Pimms. Despite playing off 7/8ths handicap there were some great scores. The overall score was close but Sue’s team just beat Anne’s and were all presented with a small gift for their contribution.

Anne and Peter's Trophy, Saturday 5th August 2006

Glorious sunny weather and a very dry course meant that balls were rolling on. This competition was played off seven eighths handicap and even on these lower handicaps, some good scores were achieved. The results were as follows:

Jane's Flag Competition, Tuesday 1st August 2006

The trophy for this competition was given to the Ladies Section by Jane King after her term as Captain in 1994. This year 31 ladies entered. Prizes are given to the winner and also best front nine and best back nine. There was only one name on the flag as Anne Leach went out first and held onto it all the way round the course and back up the first fairway to the green. The results were as follows:
