How to Attain Your Handicap

  • This is a guideline to help lady members to attain a CONGU handicap
  • Rule Books are available from the Pro Shop
  • It is assumed that you will have a general knowledge of the rules and etiquette of golf
  • Ladies Handicap Secretary is Sandra Dowler

The Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) require that you play at least three 18-hole rounds on the course of your Home Club. The cards must contain a complete gross score. At least one card should be 'marked' by a player who is a member of Wexham Park Golf Club with a handicap. The remaining cards may be marked by a member of another affiliated golf club provided he/she has a handicap. The marker may mark only one player in a round. It is preferred that the three cards are played and submitted within a 12 month period.

The maximum handicap is 36 and to attain this on the Wexham Park Blue Course you would need a gross score of 103 (i.e. SSS of 67 + 36 extra strokes). For the purposes of calculating a handicap any score of more than 3 over par on a hole will be adjusted (by the Handicap Secretary not the marker) to 3 over par. You should achieve a score, after adjustments, of around 103 or better on at least one of your cards. If this has not been possible, consideration will be given to an application where at least 2 of the cards achieve a score of 107 or better. Please do not submit cards where the total amounts to more than 110.

A card marked for handicap purposes MUST bear the name of the player (printed clearly please), the date on which the score was marked, the total gross score, the signature of an eligible marker and the signature of the player. We must be able to read the name of the marker, to know his/her handicap and the club to which he/she belongs.

You do not need to wait until you have completed all three cards before submitting them; indeed, if you submit your first card as soon as you have completed it, the formalities can be set in motion so that there is the minimum of delay in awarding your handicap when you have played the necessary rounds. When you have submitted three appropriate cards the Handicap Secretary will allocate your handicap. This will normally take about a week (maybe a little longer in the holiday season). Notification of your handicap will be pinned on the notice board alongside the main handicap listings. If you do not hear anything within three weeks, contact the Pro Shop.
