Maria's Musings

Dear Lady Golfer,

Well the year is flying by; these past weeks have been fantastic with summer here at last…. The course is in excellent condition, reflecting in some high scoring.

Quite a lot has happened since last letter.

Ladies Section News

Lady Captain's Day

Was very enjoyable, little rain at the beginning threatened to spoil the day, however no need to worry the clouds soon rolled by and 116 Ladies, Gents and Juniors enjoyed a good days golf. The youngest member was just 10 years old., Well done Elliot. Following the excellent BBQ and prize giving, Yonex gave a very enjoyable display, and showed just how lethal a ball can be…. Do take care. Collection made £95.00, which was divided between the Captains' Charities. Many thanks to all who helped and supported on the day. More details on the Lady Captain's Day page.

Past Captains' Day

Lovely summers day and 15 ladies played , Gill Lindsley joined us for a very enjoyable lunch. It was good to meet friends old and new and learn a little about years gone by.

Club Championship 16th and 17th June

17 Ladies played, again in ideal weather conditions. The prize giving was followed by lunch on the second day. Gross Winner was Abi Morgan, Nett winner was Pat Fullick.

Ladies Invitational, 9th June

What a day! Rain poured incessantly and even the ducks took up residence on the putting green. The game was cancelled. However the kitchen staff were brilliant and brought lunch forward and 34 ladies enjoyed a leisurely afternoon, catching up with friends. We also had a draw for the prizes among the guests

Wednesday Evening Ladies

Started 28th May. The first evening was raining but 19 brave folk turned up and played and, apart from Wednesday 9th, playing conditions have been excellent. Six ladies have already got their handicaps, well done to: Kay Martin, Linda Eade, Mo Mitchell, Pam Ellingham, Caroline Martin and Marian Farmer. We look forward to seeing you at the Tuesday and weekend competitions. Thank you to all the helpers who have given their time on Wednesday evenings, without you it would not be possible.

Matches Home and Away

We have played three matches so far this year with one to go. The Rickmansworth match at home on 23rd April, we won 3 lost 1. The Haste Hill match at home on 13th May we lost by 1 game. At Hazlemere away on 29th May we lost all our games - not surprising in view of the difficulty of the course. There is one more match against Wycombe Heights on the 28th August at Wexham - details are on the notice board.

Awaydays

We have had two awaydays so far this year. One at Farnham Park and one at Wycombe Heights. Both games had to be re-arranged because of the weather. The re-arranged day for Farnham Park turned out to be a really lovely day and all had a good time. The next away day is at Wycombe Heights on Tuesday 26th. There is a notice on the board if you would like to play.

Birdies

Please remember to record all birdies scored in qualifying, non-qualifying and eclectic competitions in the Birdie Book. The Computer does not now record these automatically

Weekend Ladies

Lesley would like to see more ladies support the Sunday Competitions, if you have any suggestions, please let Lesley or Maria know.

Mini League

The third annual mini league culminated on 7th August with a very well attended prize giving and light meal. The competition had a different format this year: the league followed by a two stage knockout involving all team members. Both elements were closely contested, especially the knockout stages.

Team 4 topped the league with team 1 winning the knockout. Congratulations to them.

Maureen B won the putting competition (in a playoff from Anne L) whilst the relentlessly consistent Pat F scored 3/3 to take the chipping prize.

Thanks to everyone who took part, especially those who organised teams and matches, with a special thanks to Anne Wignall - the roving substitute.

Finally, thanks to Jan M for helping behind the scenes (she does the work, I take the credit) and the Ladies Section for the financial contribution to the meal - thus freeing up cash for the lovely prizes!

I hope you all enjoyed the experience and your game improved - that's really the objective - maybe do it again next year?

Lady Captain's Charity

This year we are supporting the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury. There will be a number of raffles during the year, collecting boxes on the Bar and in the Ladies Locker room, so you can add your donation whenever you like. Please remember voluntary contribution of 50p if you do not hit first fairway and 50p if you go in the pond on the 5th. There will be a grand raffle in October in conjunction with Colin's Cup. Raffle prizes and fund raising ideas would be very welcome. There are books and CDs in the ladies locker room to borrow or buy, please leave your donation in the collecting box. Many thanks.
