ST PATRICK'S DAY COMPETITION MARCH 17TH
This was the first time a St. Patrick's Day competition was held at Wexham. A field of 30 played a 4 Ball Better Ball. It was very enjoyable despite the bitterly cold weather, (note for Joe Dunne "what about a little hot Whiskey before teeing off next time"?) There were many shades of green in evidence - didn't know Wexham had so many Irish members…
The overall winners were Captain Gerry McIntyre and Lady Captain Anne Leach, with Maureen Bailey and Kay Shacklady coming 2nd. Congratulations to the winners and thank you Joe Dunne for organising a great day. Roll on 17th March 2007, which will be a Saturday.

FUN DAY
Tuesday 28th March was our fun day………and what fun we had, watching the balls fly in all directions due to the near gale force winds! Standing on the green you could see the balls twitching in the wind. Three ladies have started playing in our competitions so welcome to Jo, Jackie and Margaret - and to Sue Williams who escaped the camera this time - will get her for the next newsletter!
FRIENDLY MATCHES
The first of our friendly interclub matches is on April 19th against Haste Hill. We have our team for this first match so keep an eye out on the notice board for the next one, which is at home against Bird Hills on Thursday 11th May. These are fun matches with lots of friendly rivalry. Everyone is welcome to put their name down to play. Don't think you're not good enough. I had only been playing with the Ladies Section for a week when I took part in my first match. (I think they were desperate on that occasion). With some trepidation I went off to Hennerton and played as Sue Carroll's partner. I had the worst game of golf ever, couldn't get the ball off the ground, only had one decent hole, but was still asked back again for the next match and I've played in almost every one since. So come on have a go.
A notice is on the board for you to add your name if you are interested in joining us for any of the matches.
KEEPING SCORE
It is important to remember that in competitions when you sign a card, you are signing to say that the score is correct. It is therefore your responsibility to count the number of strokes that your playing partner has had on each hole as well as your own. You should also remember that when you finish each hole you should move on to the next one quickly and tee off as soon as possible. If you have the honour you should tee off while the other players mark their cards, and then you should mark yours after you have teed off.
Remember that if you spend 30 seconds marking your cards on each hole you waste 9 minutes in a complete round.
AWAY DAYS
Our first away day of the year will be at Stockley Park on Tuesday 30th May. The cost will be £20, which includes golf, sandwiches and prizes. A notice will shortly be put on the board in the ladies cloakroom so look out for this and put you name down quickly to avoid disappointment.
www.wexhamparkladies.co.uk
Our website was set up just over a year ago and has been designed and maintained by Kathy Byrne. During 2005 we had 2,825 separate visits to the site, an average of 235 visits per month. We are looking for someone with an interest in websites to help with the running and maintenance of the site. This would involve updating web pages and uploading them to the hosting servers. Knowledge of html and ftp would be desirable but is not essential as training can be provided. You will need to have a PC with Internet access and ftp software. If you are interested in helping with the website please contact Kathy.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
Two important dates to remember for your diary. First is Lady Captains Day - moved this year from Bank Holiday Monday to Sunday 21st May to enable more lady players to take part. Last year there were over eighty entrants but only twenty-two of these were from the Ladies Section. This is a great day with a mixed competition and a BBQ and prize giving afterwards, and you do not have to be a 7-day member to play. Anne and Carol are also looking forward to entertaining you at their 'half-way house' so let's see as many ladies as possible supporting our Captains.
Our Ladies Invitational is on Friday 14th July.
This is another fun day giving you the chance to invite a friend from another club to play with you. Let's see if we can have a record number attending this year.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
The format for this year's Club Championship has now been finalised. The first round on Tuesday 20th June will start with normal tee-times in the morning and afternoon tee-times to accommodate those ladies who work. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the notice board asking for preferred start times. The second round on Tuesday 27th June will be drawn in handicap order and a start time of 9 am. Players do not have to have the same partners for both rounds.
EASTER RAFFLE
We will be holding an Easter raffle with tickets available from 4 April. The draw will be made after the Pink Panther Competition on Tuesday 11 April, and a contribution from the proceeds will be made to The Golf Foundation.
If anyone has any prizes they are able to donate please hand to a Committee member.
NEWSLETTER
As you probably know, I have been writing the newsletter for just over a year now. I have really enjoyed doing this but due to other commitments it is now time to hand over to someone else. If you have a little time to spare and would be willing to take this task on please consider giving it a go. It may seem like a daunting task but it isn't and you will receive lots of help and input. If you are interested please contact Sue Goodliffe.
