Wednesday Evening Ladies
Welcome to all the new ladies (and some familiar faces) at this years Wednesday evenings. These have got off to a flying start with some very good scores.
Some of the ladies have already put cards in to attain their handicaps, and we look forward to them joining the ladies section in the near future.
If you are able to help out with these evenings please speak to Anne Leach.
Competition Draws
Qualifying Competitions
Players to be divided roughly into two groups - high and low handicaps. The Draw is then made separately for both groups with the low handicappers playing first. The only exception to this is the Sunday Stableford competitions which will be drawn randomly.
Non-Qualifying Competitions
Players to be divided into groups of high, medium and low handicappers, which will be drawn to ensure a fair mixed competition field, with the intention of achieving one person from each handicap group in each 3 ball. Should there be insufficient numbers in a particular category, then the draw will be adjusted accordingly.
All competitions
Where appropriate, groups should go out in 3-balls and any odd numbers at the end of the field would then be a 2 + 2. There should be no 2-balls in the middle of a competition.
Charity Day
Wexham Park is hosting a charity day on Sunday 10th July in aid of The Shooting Star Children's Hospice. Teams of four will compete in a fun day. The format will be Texas Scramble, with prizes for best team, longest drive, nearest the pin and many more. The entry fee is £100 per team. This promises to be a great event and in aid of a good cause, so come along and give your support. There are collection boxes on the bar so any spare change would be gratefully accepted. We also need substantial raffle prizes, so please bring anything that you feel suitable along to the club.
For more information please contact Joe Dunne.
Manor of Groves Weekend
That rare bird the Yellow Breasted Wexham Canary was spotted in Hertfordshire in May. Ten members went off for 2 days to the Manor of Groves Hotel and Golf Course. All had a thoroughly good time. The course was challenging, with several ditches that resembled Beeches Brook! A very good weekend, would recommend this as a short break, nice and close to home.
Away Days
Maureen Bailey and Hilary Linton are to be congratulated for their organisational skills in arranging our first awaydays of the year. Twelve ladies went off to play at Aylesbury Park on 31st May. It was one of those rare days when the sun shone and we played some excellent golf, (some more excellent than others). Rosemary Horridge won the overall event with a great score of 39 stableford points.
The next awayday at Richings Park on 17th June had mixed weather with wind and fine rain for the early part of the morning where the first 5 holes were open and exposed. The remainder of the course proved to be a lot more scenic although more testing and a little entertaining on the 18th where a family of swans were resting in front of the pond directly in line with the pin. Sarah Collins suggested that if Brenda Smith did not feel confident about playing her shot over the swans she would make a local rule to drop the ball to the left. Taking the advice the ball of course went straight into the pond! Pat Fullick won overall with 33 stableford points.
Inter Club Matches
Rickmansworth - Away
In May we were welcomed by the ladies of Rickmansworth for a very enjoyable match. Now we all know why it's called 'Tricky Ricky'! There are quite a few blind holes, and some of the others are rather daunting. The matches were all very close but we managed an overall win.
Hazlemere - Home
The ladies of Hazlemere joined us for our first home match of the year on 2nd June for a fine day of golf. Unfortunately despite the home advantage we were unable to beat them. Although all seniors, the team was made up of some very good players (the lowest handicap being 13). The hills of Hazlemere obviously help keep them all fit. (We will have to start training for next year's return match soon).
Hole in One
Many of you probably already know that Betty Humphries had a hole in one on the 8th hole in the Linda Sliwa Trophy, competition on Saturday 14th May.
Congratulations to Betty.
Welcome Back
We would like to welcome Kay Martin back to the club. It was lovely to see her playing nine holes recently and we look forward to her joining us in competitions soon.
Summer Knockout Competitions
The Summer Knockouts are now well under way. It's worth remembering to arrange your matches as early as possible. It may seem like you have plenty of time to play these, but trying to get a date when four people can all play a match can sometimes prove difficult, especially with holidays coming up.
